john heckle is back on mathematics with this 4 track ep. bringing back some serious textures and sequence in sonic mentalism. reminiscent of laidback spencer kinsey (gemini) or early derrick carter in his red nail days. dope!

nemorous records is rooted in a techno tradition, albeit eager to grow in all different kind of directions, thus touching genres as diverse as industrial, experimental or even metal. the label is run by veteran dj (and newcoming producer) anja zaube and markus grotmann, who recently started to dj under the dim_light moniker. they both share a powerful vision of the label s overall sonic and visual aesthetic. nemorous records output will be on analog media (vinyl, tape) first and foremost, with digital availability maybe later. the main focus will be on new or lesser known artists in whom both strongly believe, on vinyl format complemented by remixes from more established artists. the first issue is by anja zaube, backed with a remix by jan grebenstein.

as an encore to the mesmerizing ccc: bb: bbb: jj release on kontra-musik, tyler friedman brings out his version of what he thinks -dj techno tools- are. this is music for the dancefloor alright, but it s a dancefloor from a strange and slightly uncanny dream. tyler explores the sonic field between the chillingly precise and the vivaciously warped - the disciplined and the untamed. he thrives in that space, creating an eerie microcosmos of evolving harmonies and rhythms that seem to have lives of their own - like music coming out from a haunted clockwork. a suiting apparatus for a label unconcerned with the conventions of time.

bang! patrick richard delivers a new ep with four bass-heavy house and techno hybrids. the a-side starts off with a wild, bass driven anarchic journey, followed by a pulsating jacking house inspired track, climaxing in a hypnotic groove. the deeper b-side begins in a dark and bass heavy territory, where a hunting analogue lead adds character. the final track is a collage of spaced out and seductive melancholic instrumentation for early morning sets. intricate arrangements, cinematic sonic landscapes and attention to detail makes this super limited ep a must have for anyone interested in electronic music pushing boundaries.

can t joke with dexy is the opener here and is a bumpy, edgy house cut with tense and nervy keys jangling above a roughshod drum line. it grows ever more dark and comic and things roll on before faith is a more breezy, airy house groove. the drums here dance a nimble dance, thin synths and emotive chords all come in rich layers and a lo-fi percussive line proves how frey can conjure up idiosyncratic sounds with ease. like its title suggest, ghosts is a hauntingly atmospheric track with icy hi hats, pixel thing and hugely melancholic chords and harmonic bells all adding a sense of calm and serenity to turbulent drums deep down below. lastly, scale is a sub 100bpm crawler with fat elastic synths strung up between lazy kicks. two filtered spoken word lines add plenty of weirdness to this soupy bit of cosmic seduction and round out an ep that is stuffed with fresh ideas and great sonic invention.

dead fader returns with his new album *glass underworld*. dead fader is the alter ego of john cohen - former brighton resident, now based in berlin - who has worked relentlessly since 2007 to realise his vision of electronic music. his tracks are characterised by pioneering sound explorations, which on one hand oscillate between sonic extremities and on the other hand carefully craft cinemascope sound worlds. *glass underworld* became a very personal exploration for john, developing further his emotionally tinged brand of techno which he established with the previous ep sun copter. furthermore, the film interstellar visually influenced the album, mapped as an image for cohens tracks to exist in. the vinyl release is limited to 300 copies and comes with download code included.

juan rico, a.k.a. reeko and a handful of other aliases, is a consistent and reliable ambassador of a spanish techno scene that has brought us everything from oscar mulero to tadeo. in his architectural guise (which is also the name of his personal releasing imprint), rico has developed a penchant for perfectly interlocking sonic elements and for a structural sensibility that delivers on the promises of advanced engineering implied by his artists pseudonym. the first result of his new alliance with the wolfskuil label is a full lp that dispenses with the formalities of introducing listeners to the artist, and simply dives straight in to depths of his active mind.

following up the fantastic summer re-release of upsetting keys “empathy” ep, path records follows with its first new catalogue number since 2006. path 008 marks the return of artist fate 258, whose 1999 “why 2k” path 001 ep has been a hotly sought after item on discogs. the three-track ep contains two exciting new mixes of cult classic techno track “the path”. the a-side version “path to hell” is the harder of the pair, a dark edgy journey into the unknown with shuffling 808 rhythms providing much of the melody. “path to heaven” slows the groove down and adds warm juno pads throughout the mix for a very deep detroit flavored techno style. on the final track “heaven or hell” sort of a broken beat downtempo piece, sparse vocals and bladerunner samples mix to complete the dystopian concept. these mixes of “the path” are considered pre-mixes, as they were completed in 1998 before the original release of path 001. fate 258 is a project from brooklyn producer reade truth, known for his work over the last decades on labels such as planet e, sonic groove, n-syde, wurst and strictly rhythm to name a few. limited to 250 worldwide, with the first 100 including full black and white cover art.

sold out! what happens when scales and patterns of contradicting emotional imprints combine? when light and darkness, bitter and sweet, frost and blaze collide? those are the questions that johannes heil chooses to address on his upcoming album, opening up a vast grey-scaled area for the listener to traverse with techno as a blindfold. <black light> sees the german techno mainstay return to the album format for an intimate ten track odyssey of close-curtained introspection. heil chooses the words of fellow futurist nikola tesla to set the stage of the black light story: >black is the true face of light, only we do not see this<. track names are dropped in favor of a chronology of scenes, better adapted to the seemingly polar opposition of the forces that the figure and cocoon regular conjures throughout the album. everything that we perceive is processed and set into relation with past memories, digested emotions and iron-branded impressions. battling the current, johannes heil chooses to challenge certitudes by forcing us out of our comfort zones into the absence of light. if the pictures painted on >black light< are dark, they are also far from monochromatic. the machine-driven sonic prism acts both as the heavy cloud and the burst of light that shoots through to guide us. its the aggressor and the victim, the clenched teeth and the jubilant, the paranoia and the sanity of the mind. its pure heads-down driving techno with volumes of grandiose. provoking our senses, extending his art onto our personal canvases, the exile boss gives the listener the freedom to interpret the emotional context of each piece, to write the scripts of the individual scenes. the impression that >black light< leaves upon first listen testifies that 20 years down the road, johannes heil shows no sign of slowing down.

communist dub is pan sonic member ilpo väisänen’s second solo album for editions mego (asuma having appeared 2001). this striking new release is a statement against technocracy and the erosion of human community.

a new four track ep by hexagon aka conforce on his own imprint. doing what he does best. making deep imaginary techno music with otherworldly authentic atmospheres without any concessions. the title track sucks you into desolate interstellar territories paying hommage to 606 rhythms with emotive strings on top that determine the total atmosphere of this killer advanced electro cut. human meets machine in it s purest form. pitch black leans on accurate programmed heavy broken percussive patterns and is the most functional track of the ep. functional but it s haunting atmosphere lifts this to a different dimension. continuum dives deeper into sonic territory with a mysterious stealth missional vibe caused by it s unpredictable sparkling crispy effects and mysterious pads. systematic repetition leans on pulsating modular bleeps and dubby basses and is the most techno orientated cut of the whole ep. it wouldn t be a conforce record if there weren t any strings and pads attached to it.

kyle geiger returns to droid recordings for a three-track suite of techno and rhythmic experiments, jupiter storm. a1 (jupiter, hydrogen edit) builds from a rumbling kick, slowly constructing a space of delayed tones and filtered noisse pressure aimed at the dancefloor. b1 (mars) takes things for a truly unexpected turn, borrowing some of jupiter’s sonic language and reformulating a triple-metered groove with waves of noise and distortion. the title track, jupiter storm (b2) brings the full kick back into the picture riding the mars rhythms against the standard kick for a track that’s driving and infectious.

after last years releases on spectrum spools, italian techno masterminds donato dozzy and neel are returning as the duo voices from the lake with a release on the mother label editions mego: »live @ maxxi« is a marvellous organic live-set of hypnotic ambient techno, proofing the outstanding and elegant craftsmanship of their sonic sculpturing, that they both are famous for.

a seminal, bold and instantly nostalgic lp, midnight wave showcases imres immense ability to craft vivid landscapes of ethereal sound, infused with layers and years of emotional content. here is a body of crackling, warm ambient and techno with a vast, cinematic scope. a sonic portrait of an alienated moment in london, told using industrial visceral tools and visualised through the cutting figure of a lonely individual boarding the 5am night bus home.

adam x is back with his third album release under his industrial guise, admx-71. following releases with the legendary label hands and his own imprint, sonic groove experiments, adam paired up with l.i.e.s records in 2014 for redacted files, a 12 inch single of slowed-down and tense ebm wizardry. adam returns to the l.i.e.s. front with coherent abstractions, a brand new album of singular experiments that pull from every corner of electronic musics landscape into a comprehensive and propulsive full-length.

vent adds yet again new sonic influences to its palette, this time owing thanks to its main curator tolga baklacioglu. with this release, we are pleased to add more than just a sprinkle of industrial and ebm influences to the catalogue of records we are proud to say is the sound of vent. to make things even better, one of more interesting techno producers as of late, and also sweden’s favourite son - daniel andréasson - wanted to lend us a hand to really bring the point home with this record. laden heavy with distortion, this release goes further than one can call the lofi sound - instead the thought is taken to its logical conclusion: distortion is as much an element in its own right as time, space and velocity.
